January Means Diet (or so I've heard)

 One of the most common New Year resolutions is losing weight, especially since December involves so many family dinners, celebrations and parties. I'm not a fan of diets because I believe that changing habits permanently is the best way to lose weight and keep it off (not an easy task). However, there's a new trend in diets that I'd like to write about: the Dukan Diet.

Battle of the Snacks: Cookies vs Ice Cream

A long long time ago, I don't remember when exactly, I was asked which one was healthier: cookies or ice cream. Me, being a faithful ice cream lover, immediately said ice cream, of course. It has some dairy in it so it must be healthier, right?

Oatmeal Cookies: a Success Story

Trying to figure out an appropriate diet snack, I came out with a great solution: oatmeal cookies. Full of fiber, they sounded like a satisfying option to curb my sugar cravings. Considering this, I logged on to Foodbuzz and scanned several recipes until I found something I liked. And the winners are: apple oatmeal and peanut butter-chocolate oatmeal.

One of the simplest rules in weight loss is “eat when you're hungry”. Sounds easy, right? Guess again. Most of our eating is done according to a schedule, an event or an external stimulus. Lunch breaks at work, family dinners, birthday parties or a free sample at the supermarket are messing with our hunger signals. It's time to take control back.

Baby steps and diet

As a part of eating healthier, I've made a few small changes to my habits. I understand that I should be making bigger efforts, but every time I change too much too soon, I revert back to my old self. So, a few small changes seem like an easier goal than going in full diet mode.

Are you thirsty?

A long time ago I saw a commercial on TV about diet pills that were "amazing". I won't say the name, but you were supposed to take the pills with 2 glasses of water before every meal. I was outraged! I told everyone that would listen (and some that wouldn't) that if you drank that much water before every meal you wouldn't need the pills. Common sense. Drink water, feel fuller, eat less, lose weight.
